Newcastle Reject £23 Million Bid For Andy Carroll

As we had expected – Newcastle United have immediately rejected the Tottenham bid that was made late yesterday.

Mike Ashley – determined to hang onto Andy Carroll?

It seems the bid was sent directly to Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, and we had expected it to be immediately rejected.

Of course in truth, we are never absolutely sure what Mike would do, since he’s made some surprising and sometimes stupid decisions in his three and a half years in charge of Newcastle. And he’s been right to admit that too.

But he’s done the right thing, and seems to have kept his word to new manager Alan Pardew,  that he will not sell any of Newcastle’s top players.

And of course Andy is exactly that at Newcastle.

A high-ranking Newcastle official (Derek LLambias?) told Sky Sports News today:
“The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale.”
The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as paltry in the current climate, but we hope that’s not said to entice Spurs to put in an improved offer for Carroll.

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said a couple of weeks ago he was already bored with all the talk about his young star striker being sold, and he seems determined to hang on to one of the best young talents in England right now.

But we are looking forward to Sunday, when we expect Carroll to be linked with some other big clubs and maybe the transfer fee quoted will be even more than £25M – why is that?

Because they will be able sell a load of  Sunday papers with that story, with Andy being one of  the darlings of English fans right now, even though it will not be an accurate story in any way – but who cares? :D

To end on a slightly more serious note, we have to hope Spurs end their interest right now, and don’t return with an improved offer, that may even sway Mike Ashley.

Don’t do it Mike.

Comments welcome.
